Oakwood Historic Markers

The Society unveiled the first of its historical markers, commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the first platting of “The Town of Oakwood” on May 14, 2022, during a ribbon cutting ceremony by Oakwood Mayor Duncan and City Council members and officials. The ribbon cutting event was accompanied by the sponsors of the first marker, residents John and Mj Gray.

The Society’s second historical marker is now installed outside 45 Park Avenue, honoring Oakwood’s first free-standing public library.

This newest library historical plaque was generously supported by longtime Oakwood resident, Dan Turben.

The Society has received a very generous grant from the Rotary Club of Oakwood and the Society is currently planning the placement of two additional markers to be installed during 2023 with these funds.
