Archives and Collections
The new Oakwood Historical Society Archives Collection is located in
the basement of the City Building at 30 Park Ave. This secure site is
temperature controlled, well lighted, dry, and fire proof all features
lacking in the former rear of the Homestead.
We have brought all of our diverse collections of photos, files,
memorabilia, microfilm, and books together in one place so that persons
wanting information or to do research on the history of Oakwood can find
any information that we have.
Examples of our materials are:
- Four file cabinets with clippings and pictures of:
Oakwood City activities, old council minutes, businesses and shopping
places, high school and school board activities, publications, graduation
programs, Harman School pictures, publications, directories
Smith School pictures, publications, directories, and Lange School pictures
etc.
- Complete set of Acorns (with some duplicates)
- Files about NCR, Wright Brothers, Hawthorn Hill, 75th Anniversary,
events, old newspapers, etc.
- Files about people, events, and places
- Books about history of State, Region, County, Dayton, and Oakwood, with

Oakwood
Tidings
The Oakwood Tidings was a short-lived newspaper during the Great Depression.
Printed out of a home, this newspaper covered life in Oakwood and Greater
Dayton, and national news. The issues are invaluable for a glimpse into everyday
life including ads for restaurants and grocery stores in the area. This
collection of eleven issues is a great addition to the Oakwood Historical
Society's collection of newspaper and records.
