contact page on this website for more
information on volunteering.
Archives/ Acquisitions Committee
The Oakwood Historical Society archives contain a variety of interesting documents and materials
concerning the history of Oakwood institutions, families, and development of the
area. Located in the City Building, volunteers assist the Archives chair with
the organization and care of these valuable research materials.

built in 1863 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Adult

the Homestead.

by volunteers. There are several volunteer opportunities on this committee
throughout the spring and summer months.

database and records. Membership volunteers help with mailings and special
projects.
Preservation Committee
The preservation committee works on projects that promote the architecture of
Oakwood, such as the preservation handbook for homeowners. This active committee
seeks volunteers committed to preserving the charm and historical significance
of Oakwood.
Program Committee
This committee organizes monthly educational and entertaining programs for
society members and friends. Topics range from Oakwood architecture and history
to tours and presentations at local historic sites. Volunteers assist in the
planning and execution of these events. For example, we have dedicated
volunteers who bake for our social time before the monthly programs.
Public Relations/Newsletter Committee
Published quarterly, the Oakwood Historical Society newsletter provides
information about upcoming events and projects. The newsletter also features
interesting educational articles about Oakwood history and architecture.
Additionally, this committee promotes Society events through special press
releases and postcard mailings. Volunteers are encouraged to submit articles for
the newsletters that focus on Oakwood and its residents. Other volunteers help
with mailings and special projects.
